Check out the second official QOTW (Question of the Week) post ! We created this topic to encourage some casual conversation on this site. We want folks to engage, but in ways that are very low commitment. This week it is about ENGAGING content!
Planning Commission Public Hearing Meeting on re-zoning the old school bus garage on Tue Apr 20th at 5:15PM. Here is the public notice as written in the newspaper:
Notice is hereby given that the Planning Commission of the City of Morris will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 via a hybrid meeting in the City Council Chambers of the Morris Community Center and virtually via Zoom at 5:20 p.m. The purpose of this hearing is to consider the rezoning of a property as requested by the petitioner Morris Public School District. The property is located at the corner of Wy-oming Avenue and West 5th Street (MN Highway 28 West) in Morris, parcel number 20-1122-005, and legally described as BLK 1 LT 1&2, Lundgren’s Addition. This is the old school bus garage property.
This amendment, if granted, would change the zoning for this property from an (R) Single and Two Family Residence to a (HB) Highway Business zoning district. You have the right to attend this public hearing in person at the City Council Chambers provided you wear a mask and sit in the socially distanced chairs. Arrangements will be made to speak to the Planning Commission. You may also attend virtually via Zoom. If you choose this method, you need to send an email to cityhall@ci.morris.mn.us to let us know what email address to send a Zoom invite. If you can’t attend either way, you can also send comments and concerns to City Hall, Attn: Zoning Administrator, P.O. Box 438, Morris, MN 56267 or send them to the email above. If you have questions concerning this notice, please call the City Office at 589-3141.
There is a second public notice that states changing the zoning in the city to allow public storage be a use in highway business. Basically just folks wanting to change the bus garage from residential to highway business and then make it so they can use the buildings as storage/rental storage.
If you don’t want the old school bus garage (right by the lake) to be turned into highway business we thought you might want to say something at this public meeting and then also at the city council meeting that will follow this meeting.
How can we encourage government boards to share their agendas in advance so people with thoughts can share them and people who are simply interested can engage with the local government. This seems like a task we would want to put more intention into instead of just hollering about so that there can be actual movement instead of just ~local drama~ about it. We will think about this at our next meeting.
Hopefully in June we can have an in person, outside meeting!
