Agenda:

Notes:

  • Community Check-ins

    • @cberthiaume had fun at the Dance Party last night, they are thinking about Art Fight and the Friends of the MPL Book Sale.
    • Garrett is dealing with Julian’s Staph infection. They saw a bunch of loons, and learned that the lake is so clear because of all the zebra mussels. The transition to new company (got bought out) starts on Monday!
    • Barbara clarified that the MPL book sale will still be “happening” today and Monday, you can either pay at the MPL front counter or online (there are instructions there). Barbara is about to get Super Busy with projects, she is presenting at a conference about people understanding (or not) fake news on TikTok.
    • Vern is astounded at how fragmented everyone’s knowledge is surrounding journalism/online news media. Vern will be living in Helsinki for two weeks! Vern wanted to talk about the fish who are dying because of the heat stroke.
    • Dan went to Barbara’s movie event! He enjoyed it greatly and appreciated the thoughtful deep thinking that happened afterwards. Dan is hopeful about Eric Osberg for our congress seat.
    • Syd had a great time dancing with Anna! She is going to be busy at work for the next month or two. She is thinking about Sue & Nic being gone and taking care of their garden. Syd will also be the head election judge at the Armory for the Primary (Aug 11) and the General (Nov 3) Elections, if you have any voting questions let her know!
    • Anna is thinking about how hectic and busy she has felt at work! Hunter is reminding her that she doesn’t have to fix all the problems. She has enjoyed all the work trainings recently and learning from all the cool biologists doing good work. She appreciates the community they have here and being able to see friends on a more regular basis, which doesn’t feel like her regular seasonal job situation.
    • Hunter is thinking about the opposite, he is done working now, he will start back at Morning Sky part time. He is excited to spend more time seed collecting in the nice weather. He gave us a tour of his seedling setup.
  • Updates

    • Container Farm
      • Second field trip in September
      • September 12th meeting
  • Upcoming

    • Riverview Stevens County Planning Commission Hearing - August 3rd @ 7PM
      • Barbara feels cynical, but doesn’t want to give up quite yet. Even if the expansion happens, she thinks it is important to have an analysis of how it impacts our area (economics, environment, water, labor, etc.). There can be a real concern when the largest employer, who uses the most resources, gets special privileges. There is harm that comes when there is not diversification of people, employment, and resources.
    • PDTRA River Run - August 5th @ 4PM
    • Sue’s Gallery Reception - August 20th, 5:30-7:30PM
    • Deep Roots Festival in Fergus Falls
    • Is there a neighborhood gathering thing happening this fall? Is Morris Unity Fund making it happen?
    • Tuesday, September 15th the DFL fundraiser “Pie in the Park” is happening at Eastside Park 3-8PM
  • Next Meeting

    • September 12th
      • Ask Tina if we can go on a tour after meeting, and then one later that week.
