  • Community Check In

    • @syd is thinking about the Beyond Plastics training they are going to attend this week. She is excited to learn from some people about the work and advocacy they do. She is also thinking about what it means to “build community” when so many people are using this terminology post-election. Syd wants to practice authentic community building, she wants to practice acknowledging the ways in which we are already community building.
    • @cberthiaume is thinking about how City Government works in response to the general public. They are thinking about how they are the only civilian that attends Tree Board meetings, and they have not attended City Council. They are thinking about communication and city government, and how having more thorough connection would benefit everyone.
    • Vern is 92! Vern grew up during the depression and WW2, and is aware of how these eras are defining his life. He shared how he thinks the Trump era might be the third big era he is experiencing. He has been thinking about and reading on different types of futures; what happens post capitalism? He shared about accelerationism and how many things will be more technological in the future, it is inevitable.
    • Joel has been thinking about how the big picture political changes will affect the type of work we are doing in sustainability circles. How are people going to engage if the federal and state levels are not engaging in the same way? How do we find momentum? Even if the momentum shift does not hit us immediately, it will affect us, and our response will also take a long time. How do we start thinking about this now to be better prepared in the future?
    • Sue is thinking about how groups are already doing some of this work, and how there are lawyers starting to hunker down and prepare for the legal system work that is about to go down. She has been thinking about consumerism and recommends watching on Netflix, “Buy Now: The Shopping Conspiracy”.
    • Wenkai is thinking about sharing research efforts of young people further across the UMN system and community. He is thinking about supporting them and furthering the data collection and research.
  • How can we do some communal learning and supporting together?

  • Syd shared about the Winter Farmer’s Markets. They will be on Thursday December 19th, February 13th, March 13th, and April 17th from 3-6PM in the Morris Senior Center (across the street from the Library).

  • Next Meeting: Saturday, January 5th at 10:30AM online at bit.ly/climate-network
