Notes:

  • Community Check In
    • @syd had a busy September and put in some effort to add some routine to her life before the seasons change. She hopes this helps her in the seasonal transition! She has been thinking about (because of the hurricane) how the WCMNCN is also a network of relationships and connections that will help us be safer during natural disasters. Syd will be checking in on this crew during a disaster, and considers us all resources to one another in this type of situation.
    • @Nic_McPhee was learning about positive tipping points (ex. it is now cheaper to make electricity with renewables than with non-renewable sources, electric car sales are growing & changing). There are policies/methods to move these positive social/policy tipping points towards relevant change. He was sparked into this idea from this video: Fixing climate change is about to accelerate which came out of this article: A positive tipping cascade in power, transport and heating.
    • @Susan_Gilbert shared that the UK closed all their coal fired power plants! Some folks are thinking about saving the cooling towers. September for Susan was spent being sick, making art, and not doing much at all. She had a lovely conversation with someone where she took an action that was deeply meaningful to them.
    • @wenkaiguan has been thinking about research with MSI, and was sharing about research on how Chat GPT uses 500mL of water for every question it is asked.
    • @cberthiaume is thinking about how they have done it! They have gotten their big time job! Watch out MPCA! They are excited and nervous and will be working from home! They have to send a selfie in for their new badge and were big smiling at all the photos of their cat laying on their neck from 2017 until now.
  • Announcements/Resources
    • Morris Tree Stewards are having a training! October 26th learn how to care for trees in our community in partnership with the Tree Board. Learn more via this PDF: MorrisTreeSteward_2page.pdf (381.6 KB)
    • @Nic_McPhee shared a podcast he has been listening to that talks about the different types of social structures we do not have in place as the climate crisis moves further forward. It is called “Not built for this” from 99pi.
    • If anybody wants some apple cider please let Syd know, she has lots of apple cider!
