April 2026 Meeting: Saturday 4th April 2026, 10:30am. This will be an online meeting at bit.ly/climate-network. The MPL Community Room was already reserved for this date/time.
Meeting leader: @syd can do this this time, I haven’t done it in a while!
Note taker: @syd (unless someone else steps up during the meeting)
With agenda items, upcoming events, or more email wcmncn@googlegroups.com
Notes:
- Community Check-ins
- @Jeff is thinking about snow and wants to skip the muddy miserable phase in between that and everything green. He submitted our ad to the theatre!
- @Vern is concerned about the generational shift in PDT leadership/people power, he is excited to hear about the plans for PDT back room and Terrace.
- @Susan_Gilbert saw the PDT mural on the front page of the newspaper! Susan also saw a documentary called “Secrets of Bees”, lots of really close up photography of bees being bees.
- Garrett shared about his cooking adventures with his scavenged plant seeds!
- @cberthiaume shared about if it makes sense or not to continue resilient lawns crew work, noting that people don’t always show up. Captain is hating capitalism as usual, this time because their phone case broke and they cant find a new phone case. Friends offered suggestions and one has potentially been found!
- @syd has been reading and trying to balance her equilibrium. She noted down some good brainstorm ideas for the PDT room (desks, good wi-fi, couches, lamps, whiteboards, calendar for events/reserving the space, etc..)
- @Nic_McPhee shared about some co-working spaces he knows about. Morris could really use a co-working space that is like a informal coffee shop where people are allowed to do their virtual work.
- @Stardrop has been worrying about all the around the house things, its irritating that these things take so much "unbroken time”. Otherwise she is kinda glad that it snowed so she doesn’t have to go to Easter!
- Updates
- This Month’s Main Conversation Topic: casual check ins, letting conversation flow about our next steps and current thoughts, not having a conversation topic to reduce some of the intensity of MEETINGS that happen this time of year
- We got excited and brainstormed ideas for the pomme de prairie native garden
- Next steps could be chatting with the PDT board and asking Sally for which plants could be planted
- There are thoughts about the plumbing/sewer under the alleyway
- There are folks in this group interested in helping in various different ways (some in
- Upcoming Events
-
- "Resilient Homes, Strong Community” - free community event in Morris on April 16th (5:30–7:30 p.m) focused on air-source heat pumps — how they work in Minnesota’s climate, what to consider before installing, available rebates, and how bulk purchasing can make them more accessible to neighbors.
- We’ll also have a panel of local homeowners who’ve already installed heat pumps sharing their real experiences — the good, the practical, and what they’d tell someone just starting to think about it. It’s a low-pressure, welcoming evening with light refreshments and time to connect.

- Riverview Expansion - March 12th Deadline! (actually a April deadline now) - Land Stewardship Project
- The City of Morris Tree Giveaway will be May 15-16 at the City Shops (see 2 items attached). The Tree Board’s goal is to get as many trees in the ground – and being cared for – as possible in preparation for the arrival of Emerald Ash Borer. Also, please remember as the season approaches – don’t bring any outside firewood into Morris. It may harbor tiny EAB larvae. We’re trying to delay the onset of EAB as long as possible.
