Notes:

  • Community Check In
    • @Susan_Gilbert is putting signs in their yard! She is thinking a lot about the power of telling the truth. She is aware of her immigration status, her relative safety, but also knows that she will go out fighting, because to not resist doesn’t feel correct.
    • Joel is asking the questions, “what do I want to do?” and “how do I go about engaging in change-making as the mild-mannered Joel I am?”. He is open to suggestions!
    • Dan is thinking about AmeriCorps being shut down and how AmeriCorps impacted his personal life by introducing him to Captain and working together on the Tree Survey. He is thinking about his travels with friends and is excited to spend time at Niemackl.
    • Ted is amazed daily with the blatant lies. He doesn’t understand how people seem to accept it without much question.
    • Barbara has been joining in on the Saturday morning marches with Alexandria Indivisible. She shared with us about her research into social media influencers and their impact on the sustainability of music festivals.
    • Garrett is glad to be living in MN instead of IA. He shared about how he misses his garden and is excited to tap into the community garden. He asked about the composting program, we hooked him up with the intel.
    • Kim is excited about her event on Thursday (OutFront MN Community Conversation at MPL on Thursday, May 8th from 5:30PM to 7PM - join us for an evening of community conversation addressing the current political landscape with a focus on the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Light refreshments will be enjoyed. Please register here: https://secure.everyaction.com/06bVr0Ld4EmcP8H3EZAzTg2.) She is thinking about the chaos of the government being added on top of the chaos of every day life and how intense it can all feel.
    • @cberthiaume is thinking about ~scales~ and ~magnitude~. They are thinking about where it is best to put their energy and how they recently lost their family cat.
    • @syd is thinking about how they recently had to put down the family cat, how there is lots of intensity in the Elm Street life right now, and how they feel good putting energy directly into community efforts like Pride, WCMNCN, and gatherings of friends.

  • FIELD TRIP TO NIEMACKL!
    • We carpooled out to Niemackl and walked around in the lovely weather. We stopped to look at birds in Dan’s scope, climbed the lookout tower, chatted with one another, and basked in the sunshine. It was a great way to spend time together.
